Dog Ramp

April 20, 2014 by mybookboost

ramp

Meet our dachshund, Kirby. He didn’t have a good place to look out the window of the apartment we lived in at the time. My hubby came to the rescue and built him this ramp. Ramps are especially good for dachshunds, who are more prone to back issues.

When we first introduced the ramp to Kirby, we put dog treats on it to lead him up to the top. He got the hang of going up and down right away. He sat there for hours daily. Spoiled? Yes. Can you tell he was our first “child”?

Love the ramp and I haven’t seen anything quite like it yet. I have two dachshunds myself (My second and third so far). Do you happen to have any instructions or even photos while you were making it that we could use to make something similar? Or any tips? I’ve been looking for a year or so now for a ramp for the bed that zigzags like yours since the bed is so high and none of the ones you can buy would really work. I’m so afraid one day they’ll jump off and injure their backs. They are good so far, but it only takes once as you know. Plus, the whole prevention of IVDD if possible. Thanks!

      Hi Christine,
My husband made it by trial and error. But, hopefully by looking at the pictures you can get a good idea of how you could recreate it. Yes, definitely better for their backs if you can have a ramp. Best of luck!
